Current Focus

David from PTCC just finished a fairly long conversation with Representative Sam Rohrer about current conditions.  Here are the high points:
  • Speaker Perzel referred HB2929 to the Appropriations committee on October 17; Sam feels that it will pass through committee quickly and that there should be no problem there.
  • It is EXTREMELY unlikely that HB2929 will come to the floor before the election since there are only two legislative sessions remaining and there are other bills before the legislature that have priority.

There is "a chance" that HB2929 will come to the floor in the session between the election and the end of the year.

Sam suggested that we focus our efforts for the election on:

  • Defeating those incumbents who voted against the CCP in June

  • Defeating incumbents who voted for SSHB39/Act 1 and did not vote for the CCP in June (Some voted for SSHB39 when the CCP did not pass)

  • Helping to elect incumbents who voted for the CCP or who have co-sponsored HB2929

  • Helping to elect new non-incumbent candidates who have committed to school property tax ELIMINATION (he feels the word ?reform? is waffling and too indefinite)

After the Elections.......

  • Regarding House leadership, he suggested that we wait until November 8 and then make a push, by writing to those who won in the election, to have the current leadership voted out of their positions.

    • This would include:

      • Speaker John Perzel

      • Majority Leader Sam Smith

      • Minority Leader Bill DeWeese

      • Minority Whip Mike Veon

*-Majority Whip David Argall is a PFPF co-sponsor and should remain in his position.

  • For Berks County and some surrounding county residents, he suggested that we do all that we can to support those who signed the ?Promise to Berks? pledge a few weeks ago, since all of these candidates are on public record as wanting property tax elimination.

    • His suggestion was to write as many letters as possible to the editors of all local papers, both daily and weekly, supporting these folks.

      The signatories were:

      • State Representatives David Argall

      • Doug Reichley

      • Sam Rohrer

      • State Sen. John Rafferty

      • non-incumbent candidates Hal Baker (126th Dist.)

      • Jim Cox (129th Dist.)

      • Mike Folmer (48th Senate Dist.)

      • Gary Hornberger (125th Dist.)

      • Carl Mantz (187th Dist.)

      • Billy Reed (130th Dist.)

How to Help:

Send emails, letters, and post cards asking your legislators to co-sponsor HB #2929

Contact Your Legislatures

Below are the links to the lists of members of the PA House of Representatives and the Senate. Email them ALL and let them know that you demand tax reform this year. Tell them that their empty promises of tax reform stops now and you support the Commonwealth Caucus Plan. Tell them all you want them to support it as well!!! Tell them that the Commonwealth Caucus Plan makes financing schools fair because EVERYBODY should pay, not just homeowners trying to survive the ever increasing tax bill each year.

To start, you would want to contact the PA House Representatives first. The Plan has to be passed first in the House before it can go to the Senate. Once that is done, contact the Senate. Many of these lawmakers are up for re-election next year. Let them know that your vote means something.
